Another hobby i have is about plants. I really like all types of plants. Mainly carnivorous plants, but about carnivorous plants will be in another topic.
Another type of plant that i always liked but never had or planted is the sunflowers.
Some characteristics of the sunflower:
The sunflower is an annual herbaceous plant (scientific name: Helianthus Annuus), as it is born, grows, flowers, bears fruit and dies within a year. Its size reaches between 40 cm and approximately 3-4 m in height, depending on the species, and the location and the soil.
Is a heliotropic plant, this is mean, it rotates the stem, positioning the flower towards the sun during the ripening phase. This is why is call Sunflower.
Its cultivation is mainly intended for the production of edible oil, due to its excellent nutritional and functional characteristics, also produces seeds that can be harvested and used in various recipes.
How to plant sunflower?
It is very easy and fast to plant and take care of the sunflower.
First, choose a location with lots of sun. Preferably in the sun all day.
Now you need to prepare the soil with organic compounds and ensure good drainage. A good time to plant sunflowers is late spring when the soil is nice and warm, as most sunflowers germinate when the soil reaches 21°C to 30°C.
In general, you can place the seeds at a depth of approximately 5cm. You should put more than one seed in the same hole, I recommend bettween two and five. If planting in rows, choose to leave between 60cm and 90cm between them.
Plants should be pruned every few weeks to ensure proper spacing.
After planting, water the soil thoroughly. Keep the soil moist with light, frequent watering until germination occurs. If you plant indoors, cover the pots to keep them moist. Remove the covering as soon as the seeds germinate.
Sunflowers practically grow by themselves, without requiring much care. And once sunflowers start growing, they develop quickly. Sunflower care only requires a few basic growing tips, such as water and fertilizer.
Showing my experience planting Sunflower:
Here I show the evolution of one of my sunflowers i plant last summer. I planted it in 4 different places, here I just show one of them.
I managed to acquire sunflower seeds and decided to plant. Its all started on the:
April 7, 2024
Fig.1 - The Sunflower seeds.
Fig.2 - The hole where I placed 5 seeds.
And 11 days after, started to appear :) . In 5 seeds only born two. The slugs decided to eat one (they were very hungry), I managed to save the other one using broken eggshells.

And grow more.

June 27, 2024.
The flower is starting to open.

And after waiting for so long, and that's why i planted the sunflower, my flower is fully open.
Objective accomplished.

Is huge. Almost 2 meters in height.
This was the point where the sunflower was at its most beautiful point.

The flower is about 30 cm in diameter.

Well, things don't last forever...
From this moment the sunflower is starting to die :(

I was a little sad and ended up not taking any more photos until the sunflower completely died. It ended up drying completely around September 10th.
